Harrods is selling a luxury Mother’s Day hamper that will set you back £150, but is it really worth the money? One man has reviewed one to find out

Zahna Eklund Senior Social News Reporter

Mother’s Day is just around the corner – and if you’ve got the cash to splash, you could show your mum just how much you love her with a hamper from Harrods. The luxury department store in London frequently sells themed hampers at particular times of year, such as Christmas and Easter. And to celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday (March 15), they’ve got another lavish hamper on offer for an eye-watering £150.

The hampers from Harrods are sturdy wicker boxes that arrive filled with goodies, which are typically seasonal treats such as Christmas-themed preserves or Easter chocolates. But are they worth the substantial price tag? Carmie Siletto shared a video on Instagram of himself unboxing the Mother’s Day hamper – so we can see precisely what you get for your money.

The items in the hamper were displayed on a bed of what appeared to be straw. Although the hamper is large, you seemingly only receive around seven items inside.

First, Carmie pulled out a long tub that contained all-butter sea salted caramel biscuits. He opened up the tub to reveal around 12 biscuits that resembled shortbread circles with chunks of caramel inside.

He noted they smelled “amazing” and said they would pair perfectly with the second item in the hamper, some Harrods English Breakfast tea. Carmie didn’t sample the tea and moved straight on to item number three, which was a box of Harrods fudge. Inside the box were nine pieces of fudge, which he described as “unreal”.

He said: “It’s so good, it’s melting in my mouth.”

The fourth item Carmie extracted from the hamper was a mixed chocolate collection, housed in a small green box. Inside were eight pieces of chocolate, each boasting a different flavour.

He opted not to sample the chocolates as he’d have to consume them all to fairly rate them, but he did mention he’s had Harrods chocolate before and it’s “usually very good”.

Next, Carmie selected a box of all-butter shortbread fingers and a jar of raspberry and rose jam, although he noted the jam appeared “like a drink” as it was incredibly liquid inside the jar.

Finally, nestled at the bottom of the hamper was a bottle of Premier Cru champagne, which is certainly the kind of special gift that will let your mum know just how much she means to you.

Most of the items included in the Mother’s Day hamper can be purchased from Harrods individually. The English Breakfast tea costs £11 for 100 tea bags, although you only receive 50 bags in the hamper version. The salted caramel biscuits are priced at £12 on their own, whilst the shortbread is £10.

Purchasing the jam separately would set you back £7, the eight-piece mixed chocolate selection is priced at £15, and the nine-piece fudge box would cost you £12. You can also buy the champagne individually for £40.

If you were to purchase all these items individually, you’d be spending £107 – and you’d receive 50 more tea bags for your cash. This implies the actual hamper itself sets you back at least £43, which aligns with Harrods’ website stating you get eight items for £150, with the wicker basket included.

However, numerous commenters on Carmie’s video highlighted that the additional cost is “worth it” for a gift for their mum on her special day, particularly as the hamper presents it all as a proper gift.

One individual commented: “Oh, it looks gorgeous, yes please!”

Another added: “My mum would love this.”
