Looks

The i10 takes a more conservative approach to styling than some if it’s rivals but it’s sculptural lines, hexagonal front grill and LED daytime running lights (available on some models) give it a smart, classic look, which won’t date too quickly. The interior is a lovely place to be and has a premium feel, thanks to the good quality materials. It’s well thought out and built with an coloured trim on the dashboard, gear lever and seats giving it a fresh feel.

Practicality

The fivedoor only i10 is one of the more practical small, city cars on the market with enough head and legroom to carry adults in the back, useful storage space, doors that open wide enough to give easy access and a good sized boot.

Driving

The i10 comes with a choice of two petrol engines and is one of the most enjoyable small cars to drive. Light, responsive steering, a smooth gearbox and good visibility make this a great car to drive around town. The big surprise is how well the i10 copes with motorway driving, it’s comfortable and quiet, and even the smallest 1.0litre engine has enough power for confident overtaking it’s a small car, with a large car feel.

Safety

Six airbags, ISOFIX child seat points, tyre pressure monitors and the latest technology to help you skidding if you brake suddenly are all fitted as standard and helped the i10 achieve four out of five stars in the latest, more comprehensive Euro NCAP safety tests.

Running Costs

Its safety credentials have helped the i10 achieve a low insurance rating, just group 1 on some models, and you get a reassuring fiveyear, unlimited mileage warranty. If you opt for a manual gearbox you won’t pay more than £30 a year in road tax, but choosing an automatic will push this up to £145 and fuel economy across the range isn’t as good as some of its rivals.

GH Verdict

The Hyundai i10 is a well considered car it offers an excellent combination of style, safety, quality and value for money, making it our favourite small, city car.
