It seems as though the wheels on the bus won’t be going round and round all through the town next weekend, as certain parts of east and north-east London are set to be significantly affected by upcoming strike action.

Thirteen busy bus routes will be impacted by the strikes, as hundreds of London bus drivers plan to walk out next weekend and across another weekend in January. The drivers in question all work for the Lea Interchange Bus Company (a company which is owned by Stagecoach London), and the strikes come amid bullying allegations (which Stagecoach ‘utterly refute’).

A large proportion of the affected bus routes serve Stratford, a major London shopping district. So, if you were planning to get your Christmas shopping done next weekend, it’s certainly worth bearing the strikes in mind.

When will the bus strikes be taking place?

Strike action is currently set to take place over two separate weekends. One of which will be next weekend (December 12 and 13), and the other will be in the new year (January 8 and 9).

Which bus routes will be affected by the strikes?

A total of thirteen bus routes are set to be affected by the strike action. The affected routes in question are:

  • 97 (runs between Chingford and Stratford)
  • 58 (runs between East Ham and Walthamstow)
  • 86 (runs between Stratford and Romford)
  • 135 (runs between Crossharbour and Old Street)
  • 236 (runs between Finsbury Park and Hackney Wick)
  • 276 (runs between Newham and Stoke Newington)
  • 308 (runs between Wanstead and Clapton)
  • 339 (runs between Leytonstone and Shadwell)
  • 488 (runs between Dalston Junction and Bromley-by-Bow)
  • D8 (runs between Stratford and Isle of Dogs)
  • W13 (runs between Leyton Mills and Woodford)
  • W14 (runs between Hainault and Loughton)
  • 678 (runs between Upton Park and Beckton)

You can use Transport for London’s website to find an alterative route for your journey.
