Homeless families in Haringey no longer put up in hotels

Haringey Council has now ended the use of hotel placements for families after a year-long programme of intensive action.

A total of 75 families have been moved since October 2025 into self-contained housing.

Cllr Sarah Williams, deputy leader and cabinet member for housing and planning, said: “We know that hotels are not places where children can thrive. Rooms are often cramped, kitchen facilities may be shared with strangers, and families can lack the space, stability and quiet children need to learn, rest, and grow.

“That is why we have committed to ending their use, as part of our work to tackle homelessness.”

The council said it recognised that more work remains, as demand continues to grow and the shortage of affordable housing limits temporary accommodation options.

Cllr Williams said: “We will continue to strengthen the options available to families, reduce the need for emergency placements, and push for better, fairer housing solutions, so that no child in Haringey has to grow up in conditions that undermine their health, stability, or future opportunities.”
