Highgate Primary works closely with Blanche Nevile School for Deaf Children, giving pupils regular opportunities to learn BSL and build meaningful connections with their Deaf peers. The partnership is central to the school’s inclusive ethos.

Headteacher William Dean said: “Inclusion is at the heart of everything we do at Highgate Primary.

“Our partnership with Blanche Nevile enriches the learning of all our children, helping them develop empathy, communication skills and a deeper understanding of the world around them. It’s a privilege to see our pupils embrace sign language with such enthusiasm.”

Kathryn McCarthy, co-headteacher of Blanche Nevile, added: “Sign Language Week is an important opportunity to celebrate British Sign Language and Deaf culture.

“Partnerships like the one we share with Highgate Primary help promote understanding and ensure that Deaf children feel seen, valued and included.’

Sign Language Week at Highgate Primary and Blanche Nevile included special assemblies, events and activities, highlighting how collaboration between schools can create a more inclusive future for all learners.
