Hamza Iqbal, 20, and Rehan Khan, 19, both from Leyton, and a 17-year-old boy from Walthamstow were arrested during searches across the east of the capital, reports our sister site London Now.

According to the Metropolitan Police, all three have been charged with arson being reckless as to whether life would be endangered, under the Criminal Damage Act 1971.

The charges relate to a fire in the early hours of Monday, March 23, when four ambulances run by Hatzola, a volunteer-led service supporting the Jewish community in Golders Green, were set alight.

Detectives from counter terrorism policing London are leading the investigation.

Although the incident has not been declared terrorism, officers said specialist teams are involved because of the circumstances of the attack.

Commander Helen Flanagan said: “The investigation has now reached a stage where three people have been charged and they will now appear in court.”

Police said concern in the area remains high during the Passover period.

Detective chief superintendent Luke Williams said an enhanced policing plan has been in place since the fire, including extra patrols, specialist officers and armed units in vulnerable areas across London.

He added that the measures are precautionary and not linked to any specific threat.

Two other men arrested earlier have been released on bail while enquiries continue.

The three charged are due to appear at Westminster magistrates’ court today (April 4).
