Looks

The Fiesta is Britain’s bestselling car and much of that is down to its attractive looks. We think its chrome front grill and sleek headlights combine with a comfortable, good quality interior to make this one of the most stylish small cars on the road.

Practicality

Petite is the word to use inside and out you can get more space for less money elsewhere. Head and legroom is tight in the back and getting in there is a squeeze in the threedoor version. Consider spending a little more on the Fiesta Zetec to get bigcarextras like Bluetooth, alloy wheels and a heated windscreen.

Driving

This is another reason the Fiesta is so popular, it’s easy to drive and park thanks to a smooth gearbox and light, precise steering. The comfortable ride means it’s equally at home around town or on longer journeys.

Safety

It scored a full fivestar Euro NCAP rating because of features like seven airbags and the latest automatic emergency braking system. Ford’s unique MyKey technology allows parents to restrict young drivers by programming a second key to limit speed, reduce music volume, and override deactivation of safety technology.

Running costs

The Fiesta is cheap to run, many of the diesel and petrol engines in the range provide impressive fuel economy and emit less than 100g/km of CO2, meaning road tax is free. Our choice is the 1.0litre turbo Ecoboost which Ford claim gives 66mpg, but still has plenty of power.

GH verdict

The Fiesta makes an excellent first car or affordable runaround. It’s practical and offers good value for money, but families should opt for the fivedoor version.

Also consider

Peugeot 208 or Kia Rio

Prices range from £10,145 £18,145, ford.co.uk
