Production images have been released for the new musical A Mirrored Monetnow in previews at Charing Cross Theatre ahead of its press night on 24 March 2026.
Written by composer, lyricist and dramatist Carmel Owen and directed by Christian Durham, the musical explores the life of Impressionist painter Claude Monet through a blend of memory, music and art inspired by letters and diaries from Monet and his contemporaries.
Set in Paris in 1916, the story follows an ageing Monet as he struggles to complete his Water Lilies commission while the First World War encroaches. As creative block takes hold, he retreats into memories of his younger years alongside fellow artists Renoir and Manet, and his muse Camille Doncieux.
 
 
 
 
Jeff Shankley stars as Monet in 1916, with Dean John-Wilson as the young Monet. The cast also includes John Addison, Brooke Bazarian, Natalie Day, Ritesh Manugula, Sam Peggs, Aaron Pryce-Lewis and Steven Serlin, with understudies Nick Bligh, Samuel Haughton and Meg Matthews.
The creative team includes music direction by Michael Webborn, set and costume design by Libby Todd, lighting design by Jodie Underwood, sound design by Andy Johnson and video design by Matt Powell. Heather Douglas serves as assistant director and movement director, with Rachel Blaquiere as assistant music director and Sheree Paton as costume supervisor. Production management is by James Anderton, with casting by Jane Deitch and general management by Katy Lipson and Kristie Winsen for ARIA Entertainment.
