THE first images of the new Range Rover Electric have been revealed as the iconic motor is set to be relaunched next year.
The electric Range Rover is Jaguar Land Rover’s first attempt at building electric cars in the UK.
The stunning new motor is being built at JLR’s factory in Solihull near Birmingham.
The car giant has by comparison with other manufacturers been slow to enter the electric car market.
Over recent years JLR’s rivals have launched a series of electric luxury sports utility vehicles (SUVs) such as BMW’s iX and Mercedes-Benz’s EQC.
But earlier this year JLR announced a £15bn plan to enter the lucrative but competitive market.
Now the electric Range Rover is spearheading the company’s foray into the market and expectations are high.
The company is yet to reveal a pricing point but the diesel hybrid Range Rover start at £103,000.
Geraldine Ingham, managing director for Range Rover, said the model was “seeing the highest levels of client demand in our 53-year history.”
JLR has said the car will be powered by 800-volt chargers which are dotted along main roads and motorways. The new car is also expected to highly efficient and quiet.
Earlier this year Simon Cowell was spotted out in a new hybrid Range Rover.
Si, a lover of gas-guzzling Rolls-Royce Phantoms, was seen climbing into the car at his West London home and reclining in a seat beside fiancee Lauren Silverman, 45.
The music mogul has previously told how his son Eric, nine, converted him to electric motors by teaching him about climate change.
