Final Fantasy XIV director Naoki Yoshida expressed regret for making the game “more comfortable” in a recent interview with Japanese video game magazine Famitsu.
Final Fantasy XIV is a relatively open experience for an MMO. There aren’t many complicated systems that hold the player back, the combat is fairly simple, and the game doesn’t require the player to complete difficult tasks to progress.
In addition to that, the game offers plenty of casual content for less experienced and casual players. Lifestyle content such as Island Sanctuary, collecting and creating jobs, and player housing allow players to spend time in FFXIV without stressing too much.
However, it looks like that could soon change, as FFXIV director Naoki Yoshida revealed that he regrets the game being too “comfortable”.
FFXIV director Naoki Yoshida can make the game harder in Dawntrail.
In a recent interview with Japanese media outlet Famitsu, Yoshi-P expressed his regrets about making FFXIV “less stressful.”
“This reminds me of something I regret… by continuing to leverage FF14, we’ve made the game more comfortable, a game you can play without stress. But looking at the last ten years, I think we’ve overdone it a bit,” explained the director.
When asked to explain, Yoshi-P explained how stress in video games can make the experience more enjoyable, using side-scrolling platformers as an example.
“In a side-scrolling game, if there aren’t holes you can fall into if you miss a jump, then the game would lose some of its stress, but it would also lose some of the fun.
“Speaking of FF14, I’d like to restore this part a bit. If we do this, we can give everyone a better challenge, in a good way, than ever before.
Exactly what this means is not yet certain, but it could potentially lead to an increase in the overall difficulty of FFXIV’s missions, meaning tougher fights in trials and dungeons. Dawnrail .
