NY-style pies are out, masala margheritas are in
With everything from Detroit-style pies to classic Neapolitan pizza, London has become a massive pizza city over the last few years – we even did a deep-dive into whether the capital has its own style – and now one of it’s most unusual pizza concepts is expanding. East West Pizza, which serves up Neapolitan-style pizzas with Indian toppings and sauces in Tufnell Park, is opening a second site in Shoreditch this April.
It’s taking over the Kingsland Road spot that was most recently home to Mob Pizza (which was doing NY-style pies, wings and soft serve) and before that, chicken restaurant Bird. We’ve not tried East West Pizza yet but we loved Italian-Indian sports bar Pijja Palace in LA, and the dishes on the Tufnell Park menu sound interesting – we’re talking the naga chicken and tikka sauce Afterburner pizza; the tandoori paneer and achari sauce Fickle Pickle pizza; black chole and burrata chaat; butter chicken arancini; okra fries; masala garlic bread; and chai tiramisu.
East West Pizza is certainly offering something different to its predecessor so fingers crossed that these guys can make a success out of the location.
