Two one‑act plays exploring how perpetrators of violence justify their actions will be revived this spring in He Said/She Saidpresented at the White Bear Theatre from 21 April to 2 May.
Directed and produced by Claire Evans, the double‑bill pairs Dom Riley’s Misconduct with Madeline Gould’s Ladykillereach examining acts of knife violence through contrasting psychological perspectives.
Misconduct follows Richie, a young man left behind as those around him move forward. Anchored in themes of football hooliganism and strained male friendships, the monologue traces his attempt to rationalise the fallout of a violent incident.
 
 
 
 
Ladykillerby contrast, centres on a chambermaid who has murdered a hotel guest. Through calculated detachment and dark humour, she methodically constructs a defence for her actions, blurring the line between confession and manipulation.
Together, the pieces explore the fractured self‑narratives of people who commit harm, examining guilt, denial and responsibility.
Claire Evans said: “Having recently worked on a revival of a 2019 Fringe First Winner, Bobby and AmyI have been inspired to revisit other short‑form plays that burned brightly and then afterwards smouldered, unwatched and unread. The power and themes of these two plays have stayed with me for over a decade and I felt both deserved a fresh look.”
Evans is known for directing Absent Friends, Codpieces, Handbagged, Taking Steps and Bobby and Amy at OSO Arts Centre, alongside work at Jermyn Street Theatre, Union Theatre and on tour.
The cast features Gwithian Evans as Richie in Misconduct and Geebs Marie Williams as Her in Ladykiller.
The creative team includes designer David Fitzhugh, lighting and technical DSM Marta Fossati, sound designer Jan Giedroyc and production artwork by Yuchu Zhao.
