The District Councils’ Network has relaunched as the Local Councils Network (LCN), marking a significant shift as local government in England undergoes major reorganisation.

The rebrand, announced at the group’s annual conference in Windsor, reflects plans to replace district and county councils with new unitary authorities.

With 169 member councils, the newly named LCN aims to represent a broader range of authorities during this transition.

Launching the organisation, chair Richard Wright said the change is not only a response to structural reform but an opportunity to strengthen support for councils.

‘While our rebranding reflects local government reorganisation, it also presents a unique opportunity to build something new. We can stand up for more of local government, more powerfully, at a time of unprecedented and rapid change,’ he said.

He emphasised the group’s continued commitment to local government and ambition to amplify the voice of councils during a period of rapid change.

LCN said it will continue backing both existing district councils and emerging unitary authorities.
