Disney and the West End are a match made in magical, musical heaven. Captivating costumes, magnificent music and show-stopping scenery; if you’re in need of an enchanting escape, right in the heart of the capital city – look no further, folks.
This Spring, allow yourself to be transported to some fabulous, far-off places without even having to leave Zone 1. These all-singing, all-dancing, Disney masterpieces take the movies and transform them into a whole new experience. The perfect way to put a spring in your step, in our humble opinion.
Frozen
Frozen the Musical has been melting the hearts of Londoners and beyond since opening at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane back in 2021. Since then, it’s been the worthy recipient of four Olivier Award nominations and a whopping seven WhatsOnStage Award wins. Not bad, hey?
The West End show snow-stopper tells the heartwarming story of sisters Queen Elsa and Princess Anna as Anna sets out on a rather chilly mission to rescue Arendelle from an eternal winter and find Elsa before it’s too late. Samantha Barks (Les Miserables, I Have a Dream) stars as Elsa alongside rising star, Laura Dawkes, who is making her professional debut as Anna.
Steering the ship (or sleigh) directorially is the multi-award-winning Michael Grandage. His spectacular production brings the beauty, humour and utter magic of the beloved 2013 movie to life perfectly.
It was recently announced that Frozen the Musical will take its final bow on September 8. So, we’d highly recommend donning your sparkliest outfit and heading on down to Theatre Royal Drury Lane for one final ‘big summer blowout’ before it really is time to ‘let it go’. Spoiler alert: you won’t regret it.
The Lion King
Soon to be celebrating its 25th birthday on London’s West End, The Lion King is a tried-and-tested crowd-pleaser in the world of musical theatre. Filling the Lyceum Theatre with the stunning sights and sounds of the African Pridelands; The Lion King is a roar-somely powerful story of family, friendship and overcoming adversity. But you probably already knew that, right?
Using ingenious puppetry and spellbinding special effects, the show follows Simba as he grows from an innocent cub into the king of the Pridelands. Julie Taymor’s innovative direction goes above and beyond the expected limits of live theatre and let’s face it; Elton John’s music is – quite frankly – chef’s kiss. All the style and all the substance. Just how we like it.
