There should be no barriers preventing children and parents from exploring Independent Secondary Education, especially if it’s something that interests them and is affordable. Many independent schools, including through bursary and scholarship routes, offer opportunities for families.
In Camden, we’re lucky to have fantastic state schools as well as a large number of outstanding Independent School options.
This is why I am inviting you to a special event designed to demystify the 11+ process and share insights about how children in Years 5 and 6 can best prepare.
If the thought of the 11+ feels daunting, this is an event you should attend.
Moving schools, taking exams, and embracing new challenges are all part of a child’s growth.
These transitions can be a positive experience and an opportunity for personal development. A chance to leave behind any past struggles and grow into a new chapter of academic and personal growth.

At The Cavendish School, we take pride in being a non-selective school.
Every year, our Year 6 cohort move on to a variety of secondary options: state, grammar or independent schools.
We want to help local Camden families feel confident navigating the 11+ process and explore what navigating the 11+ might look like for their children.
To do so, I am hosting an evening with two secondary school heads: Ms Katharine Woodcock from Francis Holland Regents Park, and Mrs Deborah Bligh from Mayfield School.
This panel discussion will offer perspectives on the secondary day and boarding options, with tips on how to approach the 11+ and what to expect.
It’s vital that all families feel supported through this process. With the right guidance, routine, and care, the transition should feel like a natural progression.
At The Cavendish School, we foster calm and supportive environments where students rise to academic challenges, pursue scholarships, and most importantly, embrace their true, authentic selves.
We’d love to share more about this exciting educational journey.
Please join us on Thursday, May 21, from 6pm to 8pm at The Cavendish School near Camden Tube station.
It’s a free event with tickets available at: buytickets.at/thecavendishschool/2136783. Come and learn about your options and how the 11+ process can be a positive and manageable experience.
