JRC Global Buffet senior manager Sang Tang says this is one of the restaurant’s busiest time of year due to school half-term, Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year

A Croydon restaurant has lost £70k after a triple stabbing forced it to shut at one of its busiest times of the year. JRC Global Buffet has not reopened since a 22-year-old was stabbed to death in Valley Retail Park during the early hours of Sunday morning (February 15).

Two other men, both aged 21, were also stabbed with one suffering life-threatening injuries. The busy shopping and dining retail park, off the Purley Way, has been cordoned off by the Metropolitan Police while a murder investigation is underway.

Sang Tang, senior manager of JRC Global Buffet, says he left work just a few hours before the incident. “It’s shocking that someone has died right on our doorstep,” he told MyLondon.

“When you see these things happen on the TV you acknowledge it, but it’s especially not a nice feeling that it’s happened here. We’ve had muggings and robberies in the area recently, but I’ve not seen anything like this.”

Mr Tang said the restaurant is particular popular at this time of year, meaning it is losing £35k a night while it’s shut. “There’s customers who have their special occasions cancelled, it’s not nice that they can’t celebrate,” he added.

“It would have been one of our busiest weekends of the year, with school half-term, Valentines Day and Chinese New Year all combined.”

Croydon murder investigation underway

Police were called to the retail park near Purley Way at 1.15am on Sunday to reports of a stabbing. The 22-year-old victim was taken to hospital by paramedics where he died.

Scotland Yard has confirmed two women, both aged 25, and a 28-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody.

Two further women, aged 21 and 22, were later arrested on suspicion of affray. The 21-year-old has been bailed while the investigation continues, but the 22-year-old is still in police custody.

In addition to this, both 21-year-old men who suffered stab injuries were also arrested on suspicion of affray. While one remains in hospital, the other has been taken into police custody.
