Humble Grape opened its sixth wine bar and restaurant in Topsfield Parade in January 2023 but has now shuttered the venue three years later.

In a message on its website it wrote: “We’ve poured a lot of love into Humble Grape Crouch End over the years, which makes it all the harder to say we’ve closed our doors.
“Crouch End has been a hugely valued part of our Humble Grape story, and we are incredibly proud of what we built there – a warm, welcoming space where guests could discover and enjoy global wines in local comfort.
“We’re deeply grateful to everyone who joined us on that journey: our regulars, our neighbours, and the wider community who made the restaurant feel like home.”
It added that for customers missing the bar their nearest Humble Grape was now in Islington.

The brand was founded in Battersea in 2009 by South African James Dawson who aimed to “ship out the stuffy” and share his love of wine in an accessible way.
The Crouch End venue featured reclaimed timber-clad walls, cork tiles, upcycled wine crates, and an outdoor terrace – with staff on hand to help customers choose from 400 sustainable wines made by ‘hero producers’ imported directly from 16 countries.
Dishes served ranged from cheese and charcuterie to cote de boeuf, and at the time of opening Mr Dawson said : “We are hugely excited about bringing Humble Grape to Crouch End. The local community feel is something we strive to pull through in all our wine bars and restaurants, and Crouch End holds that same neighbourhood feeling.”
Posting on The Crouch End Appreciation Society Facebook page last week one wrote: “Humble Grape the latest casualty of the high street. So many closures over the last couple of years. We’ve had the odd new business pop as well which is great, but so many units are now sitting empty.”
But others said they preferred independent local wine shop The Cellars with one replying: “The Humble Grape’ was not somewhere I would return to having tried it out when it first opened.”
