The Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) has outperformed the national average across all major themes in the 2025 National Police Wellbeing Survey, underlining the strength, professionalism and commitment of its people.

Compared to other Home Office forces, CNC colleagues reported higher levels of motivation, engagement and skills, with a clear sense of purpose in their roles. Teamwork and trust were highlighted as key strengths, with managers seen as supportive and staff confident to raise concerns when needed. The survey also recognised CNC’s excellent health and wellbeing support.

Assistant Chief Constable Kerry Smith said: “These results are encouraging and show just how committed and professional our people are. Outperforming the national average across all major themes is something we can be very proud of.

“At the same time, the survey has highlighted important areas where we need to improve. We are listening carefully, and we will take action so that every colleague feels supported, valued and confident in the future of our organisation.”

National Police Wellbeing Survey results (all scores are out of 10):

Theme   CNC   National
Wellbeing   6.7   4.9
Engagement   6.8   5.3
Work and Management Support   7.2   6.7
Resources and Support Services   5.9   5.1
Organisational Climate   6.1   5.5
Service Leadership   5.0   4.0

The survey also identified key areas where improvements are needed. These include improving the way organisational change is managed and led, tackling problems with kit and uniform, addressing high levels of fatigue, and building greater confidence in how workplace conduct matters are handled.

Action is already underway. A dedicated mailbox has been created for colleagues to share reflections and ideas.

Our already-established Positive Workplace Forums for staff and officers are actively shaping improvements and feeding into the Cultural Gold Group, which will agree an action plan following its meeting next month.

And a Police Staff Have-Your-Say Event will be held on to provide further opportunities for open discussion.
