Chris Hayward has been re-elected uncontested as the Chairman of the Corporation’s Policy and Resources Committee, vowing to continue the Square Mile’s revitalisation as a world-leading destination and driver of economic growth.
At the helm of the Committee as the de facto political leader of the City Corporation, Chris has overseen the Destination City programme, the Square Mile’s growth strategy aiming to deliver a seven-day-a week City that is a global magnet for businesses and people.
It comes as the City Corporation presses forward with its Vision for Economic Growth to unlock a £225 billion investment to boost prosperity, create jobs, and help fund UK public services. The City Corporation is also partnering with the Greater London Authority to build a new world-class London Museum in the former Smithfield market buildings. And it is building an international justice hub and future Police headquarters through a new development at Salisbury Square in partnership with the Home Office.
The Policy and Resources Committee is responsible for directing the City Corporation’s economic growth initiatives and promoting the as the world’s leading international financial and business centre at home and abroad.
It also oversees the City Corporation’s governance arrangements, agreeing policy, recommending its strategic priorities, allocating resources, and handling the City’s security and emergency planning arrangements.

Throughout his career, Chris has worked in property, construction, aviation, infrastructure, and global events management sectors. He is currently a Director at leading communications agency JBP, a consultant at Keltbray Limited, and Director of Hayward Properties Limited. He is also a former Deputy Leader of Hertfordshire and Dorset County Councils. As Policy Chairman, he operates as the de facto political Leader of the City Corporation.
