Chris Combs chose a sporty style
He has a long way to go
In May, Chris’s bariatric surgeon, Dr. Eric Smith, posted a clip on Instagram about how obesity affects mental health. In the footage, Chris chose a casual style and wore a sporty gray t-shirt. He probably opted for a casual shirt so it wouldn’t take away from the clip’s message. Inside of it, Chris talks about his lifelong struggle with his weight and describes how obesity is harmful to mental well-being. She also explains how important it is for her to tell her story and inspire others to embark on their own weight loss journeys.
One of the most interesting things about the show is how the Slatons inspire other people who have struggled with their weight.
Losing a significant amount of weight in such a short time has left Chris with some extra loose skin that he wants to get rid of. Although she doesn’t like the look of her skin, the problem goes beyond aesthetic concerns. So much excess skin is very heavy and causes unique health and hygiene challenges. Although several procedures are expensive and have a wide range of potential side effects, Chris is eager to have the surgery. His doctor told him off because he wanted Chris to lose more weight before the doctor would approve the surgery.
Chris isn’t the only Slaton dealing with extra loose skin after significant weight loss. Amy lost 125 pounds and had two children after her bariatric surgery, and has expressed her desire to have loose skin removed. Tammy is Slaton’s most concerned, who lost 440 pounds after her television debut. He went from 720 pounds to 285 pounds at his worst, so he’s carrying a lot of skin that he no longer needs.
Another pair of Slaton sisters, Misty Slaton Wentworth and Amanda Halterman, also underwent bariatric surgery. Siblings are best friends who do everything together, including major surgery. They had back-to-back bariatric surgeries on the same day in March 2023. Their surgeon was Dr. Smith, who also operated on Chris and Tammy. With 1000-lb Sisters with season 6 on the horizon, the Slatons will likely continue to pursue weight loss goals, including surgery to remove excess skin.
