If you know me, you’ll know I love exploring London’s streets. From grand thoroughfares to hidden lanes, they’re some of my favorite things about the city. Today I want to bring you my Chiswick High Road guide. This shopping street in west London is an exciting place to eat, drink, browse, and discover. Its local atmosphere and variety of things to do and see make it a London favorite. Read on for my top picks for places to go on the street. I’ve included an interactive map, too.

Chiswick High Road
Chiswick High Road sits right in the heart of the neighborhood. It runs from near Kew Bridge station in the west to near St Peter’s Square in the east. It’s known for its abundance of independent shops, restaurants, cafes, and pubs.
Originally part of an ancient Roman road that ran out of London, the street now serves as a link connecting Chiswick to the areas east and west of it.
The road is surrounded by pretty streets and green spaces full of charm and life. Together with the high road, they make this part of London worth a special trip.

How to Get Here
It’s easy to get to Chiswick High Road from other parts of London. If you want to land in the heart of the action, Turnham Green station is a good choice. It’s served by multiple tube lines and numerous local buses.
Other train and tube stations along the road include Kew Bridge, Gunnersbury, and Stamford Brook.
You can also walk or cycle to Chiswick High Road from areas like Hammersmith, the Thames Path, and Kew. In short, there’s no excuse to stay away.

Chiswick High Road Shops
Once here, one of the best things to do on Chiswick High Road is go shopping. This is one of the most beloved high streets in London after all, and there’s no shortage of retail therapy to be found along it.
My favorite shop on Chiswick High Road is The Old Cinema. Opened in a former movie theater in 1978, this place is one of London’s best vintage and antique furniture shops.
It’s fun to pop in and get lost in its warren of rooms. You’ll find split-level floors stuffed with everything from soft velvety chairs to colorful printed fabric and thick glass bottles.
Another shop I love is Foster Books. This beautiful place is housed in an 18th-century bow-windowed building that’s said to be the oldest shop on Chiswick High Road. Inside you’ll find a world of rare, out-of-print, and used titles. It’s a genuine treasure trove.

Markets
If you’re into markets, you’ll want to time your trip to coincide with one of the Sunday ones here. This area has more than its fair share of great open-air markets, and they’re worth planning around.
The Chiswick High Road Antique and Vintage Market takes place on the second Sunday of every month in Old Market Place outside the George IV pub. It features dozens of stalls selling a range of treasures.
Another great one is the Chiswick Cheese Market. It happens on the third Sunday of the month in the Old Market Place, and you’ll find 20 stalls selling 90 different artisan cheeses.

It’s fitting, as Chiswick was originally known as Cheesewick (Old English for “Cheese Farm”) and the riverside area is thought to have held an annual cheese fair until the 18th century.
A third local market is the Chiswick Flower Market. It takes place on the first Sunday of each month in the Old Market Place, and it’s worth going out of your way for if you love all things floral.
Inspired by the Columbia Road Flower Market in east London, it’s the first new flower market to be opened in London in 150 years. It features over 30 stalls selling cut flowers, bouquets, and live plants.

Places to Eat on Chiswick High Road
It’s not just shopping that draws people to this famous street in west London. There are excellent restaurants, bakeries, and cafes, too. The road has lots of delicious places to eat, and you can find food from across the world here.
Some of the most popular restaurants on Chiswick High Road include family-run Villa di Geggiano and award-winning The Silver Birch. As far as bakeries go, Ma Ma Boutique Bakery is a local favorite (and gluten-free).
Another place I love going is Parle Pantry. This independent vegan coffee shop has great food and drinks, not to mention a cozy atmosphere that will make you want to stay all day.

And when it comes to restaurants just off the high street, everyone loves La Trompette. Michelin starred and thoroughly accoladed, it has a great local feel, relaxed atmosphere, and excellent French-inspired cuisine.
And let’s not forget Napoli On The Road, which serves some of the best pizza in London. Or the Japanese food at Sushi Bar Makoto on Turnham Green Terrace, for that matter.

Pubs
When it comes to pubs, Chiswick High Road has a variety of options. From The Old Pack Horse to The Roebuck and The George IV, there are plenty of local ones to choose from.
If you’re into food, The Hound is a popular watering hole. Housed in a Victorian police station, this place serves excellent British pub classics and great drinks.
With a sunny terrace on the high road, The Lamb is another of my favorite pubs in Chiswick. This place has great character and a warren of rooms, not to mention friendly staff and good fish and chips.

Places to Stay
If you want to stay near Chiswick High Road, you have some good options. There’s a range of accommodation in the area, from hotels to apartment rentals.
My top pick for a place to rest your head in the area is room2 Chiswick hometel on Windmill Road. This apartment-style hotel is right in the heart of the village, and it offers great value. You can book a stay here.
You can see a range of other accommodation options and hotels in Chiswick here. With so many choices, you’re bound to find a place you love.

Local Area
There are a lot of places around Chiswick High Road that are worth a visit when you’re in the area. Museums like Hogarth’s House and Chiswick House have everything from art to history to discover.
Additionally, there’s a beautiful riverfront area on the Thames. It’s not far from great drinks-themed tours you can take at the Fuller’s Brewery and the Sipsmith Gin distillery.
There are plenty of other good spots to explore in the neighborhood, too. You can read my full Chiswick guide for more of my top picks for things to do and see.
