The Camden Road Arms – opposite the Mildmay Line station of the same name – was one of 38 pubs to close with immediate effect following the company’s sale to a medical cannabis company.

The £33 million deal has led to 484 redundancies of Brewdog employees.

The Victorian pub opposite Camden Road tube station has previously been known as The Grand Union, Mac Bar, Rosie O’Grady’s; The Eagle Tavern and The Draft House. (Image: Wikimedia Commons)

Previously known as The Grand Union, Mac Bar; Rosie O’Grady’s and The Draft House, the Victorian pub was an alehouse organising quiz nights and live sports screenings, and serving cocktails, burgers, fish and chips and Sunday roasts.

Recent Tripadvisor reviews were positive with one last month praising “excellent food, delicious gin and friendly, fabulous service”.

While another wrote: “Great atmosphere, excellent beer selection, and tasty food.”

Brewdog was founded by James Watt and Martin Dickie in 2007 but Watt stepped down from the company in 2024, while Dickie left the business last year.

They opened their first London pub in Bayham Street, Camden Town in 2011 – but the venue was among 10 pubs which closed in July 2025 as the company suffered financial losses.

Tilray Brands are keeping the company’s UK brewing sites in Scotland and holding onto 11 pubs in the UK and Ireland including the Brewdog in Paddington Basin.

The administrators AlixPartners are encouraging other leisure operators to offer employment opportunities for former Brewdog staff.

Clare Kennedy, partner and managing director at AlixPartners, said: “As one would expect over the past two weeks, we have received significant interest in the Brewdog business from prospective buyers across both the trade and investment communities.

“In Tilray, we have secured a purchaser with a passion for craft brewing who will be an excellent custodian and sponsor of the business in the months and years ahead.”
