Uncertain future for Brewdog as all 60 branches closed – what we know

  • Brewdog has temporarily closed all its pubs and bars throughout the UK today, as the troubled chain conducts crisis discussions with employees. The chain operates 60 branches, with 16 located in London.
  • Leaders of the pub chain are holding urgent “all-hands” meetings whilst a potential sale of the business remains undecided.
  • Chief Executive James Taylor reassured staff in an email: “We appreciate this is an unsettling time for everyone, and we want to ensure that all colleagues have the opportunity to hear directly from us about what happens next.”
  • All Brewdog locations will stay shut for the day (Monday, March 2), with food and beer deliveries suspended and customer reservations cancelled, reports the Daily Star.
  • This drastic closure comes as the company wrestles with licensing issues due to an “anticipated change of ownership.”
  • Brewdog enlisted the help of consultants AlixPartners two weeks ago after facing difficulties in generating profits in recent years. The pub chain’s future now balances on the edge as management frantically searches for a buyer.
