Queer Eye has returned to Netflix for its eighth season, but the Fab Five will soon became a Fab Four after Bobby Berk announced he will be leaving the series and now, he’s revealed why.
The reality series returned on 24th January and in November, the show’s interior design expert said he will be departing the show after eight years with rumours circulating that it was because of a rift with his co-host, Tan France.
So, is there really a feud between the two and why is Bobby leaving the show? Here’s everything you need to know, Queer Eye fans.
Why did Bobby Berk leave Queer Eye?
In November, Bobby released a heartfelt statement sharing the news of his departure with fans. “It’s with a heavy heart that I announce that Season 8 will be my final season on Queer Eye,” he wrote on Instagram.
“It’s not been an easy decision to be at peace with, but a necessary one. Although my journey with Queer Eye is over, my journey with you is not. You will be seeing more of me very soon.”
Now, in a Vanity Fair article published on 25th January, Bobby explained that he left Queer Eye mostly due to a contractual matter.
He said that he and his co-hosts, Karamo Brown, Tan France, Antoni Porowski and Jonathan Van Ness, had signed a seven-cycle contract that wrapped up in September 2022.
But, when Netflix renewed the series, he didn’t sign back on for future seasons due to other commitments. “There were definitely emotions,” Bobby shared.
“But each one of us had our reasons why we did what we did… I can’t be mad — for a second I was. All the plans that I had made when I thought we weren’t coming back, I just wasn’t willing to change those.
“I would have had to pump the brakes on multiple other projects that are already in process. We had mentally just prepared ourselves to move on — that’s why I left.”
Did Queer Eye’s Bobby Berk and Tan France feud?
What about those rumours of a feud with Tan France? Well, they began when fans noticed that Bobby had unfollowed France on Instagram last Autumn, and that he’d stopped tagging Tan in group photos of the Fab Five.
On the rumours, Bobby said, “Tan and I had a moment. There was a situation, and that’s between Tan and I, and it has nothing to do with the show.
“It was something personal that had been brewing — and nothing romantic, just to clarify that,” he continued. “Should I have unfollowed Tan? No. Maybe I should have just muted him. But that day, I was angry, and that’s the end of it.
“We became like siblings and siblings are always going to fight.”
So, that’s that then!
