The BBC has acquired the murder mystery drama I, Jack Wright, which stars Nikki Amuka-Bird and John Simm
The BBC is set to air a “suspenseful” murder mystery TV series that was partly filmed in London.
I, Jack Wright – which boasts a perfect Tomatometer score on review site Rotten Tomatoes – aired on U&Alibi and BritBox last year. The BBC has now acquired the upcoming second series, which consists of six episodes.
It has also obtained the first series – which shot some scenes around Holborn – and it is set to air later this year on BBC iPlayer and BBC One.
Described as “a propulsive whodunnit with family secrets at its core”, the show delved into the apparent suicide of influential businessman Jack Wright, which sent shockwaves through his family and left behind a mystery steeped in greed, loyalty, and suspicion.
The upcoming series sees the return of the Wrights, who are now be “deadlier than ever”, reports the Mirror.

Nikki Amuka-Bird reprises her role as Sally Wright, John Simm returns as Gray Wright, Ruby Ashbourne Serkis is back as Emily Wright, and Daniel Rigby once again portrays John Wright. Harry Lloyd resumes his role as DCI Morgan, with newcomers Tom Austen and Zora Bishop joining the cast for the second series.
“Still reeling from the death of patriarch Jack, the family are blindsided by the arrest of one of their own for his murder,” reads the synopsis.
“But have the police got the right person? And more importantly, how could this affect their inheritance payouts? Add in one new family member, two new wills, and three new bodies, and prepare for an explosive return to the twisted world of the Wright family.”
The series proved a hit with audiences upon its release last year, with one critic noting on Rotten Tomatoes: “This was great. Packed with plot twists, the show entails the reading of a will, a family with secrets, money (lots of it) and murder. Binge watched and enjoyed every minute of it.”
Another viewer observed: “An imaginative portrayal of how transactional the familial bonds has turned out to be. How money impact lives, how it isolates, how it force people into truces and how it completely change someone.
“All this great storytelling was thanks to the excellent script and the strong flawless performance by the cast. A greatly talented cast. Excellent visuals. Great sound effects. Background music was refreshing. This is a fast paced drama that’s absolutely immersive.
“TERRIFIC!!” one enthusiastic fan declared, continuing: “Every episode a treasure.”
