Below deck, the Mediterranean Sea has come under fire in recent years for blatantly harassing and manipulating producers, but fans just spotted a new one who might beat them to it. Deck Med Season 9, which ended in September, had been plagued throughout the season with allegations that certain cast members were faking their poor performances. The most egregious example came from chef Johnathan Shillingford, who served a dish that could have been fatal to a diner. Boatswain Iain Maclean also faced similar accusations after making mistake after mistake.

A fan shared a screenshot of a

an episode where producers edit footage to create brand new narratives.

It turned out that the previous season was also plagued by producer manipulation. Sayyiduh created a Reddit thread to discover a huge editing problem while watching Deck Med season 8, episode 3. During the scene where Kyle Viljoen was talking about her boyfriend with Tumi Mhlongo, there was very clear”stitch” going through it, which seemed to prove that the producers edited two different takes to make it look like they were from the same scene. “You’ll see a line right in the middle…where the serving tray has just been cut in half“, the OP pointed out.

MyNamesChakkaoofka responded with a possible explanation, saying:It’s possible that they were having a conversation, but there was something going on in the background that they didn’t want to show on screen, so they attached the images so they could still broadcast the conversation..” Such a move by the editors could have been made”for narrowing down the discussion“ only for the most important moments. While it’s possible that the producers didn’t realize that cutting the tray in half revealed their mistake, the OP added that the producers might have just needed a B-roll, so “they weren’t worried about it looking “natural”.“

What Below Deck Mediterranean’s producer manipulation means for the franchise

The producers under the cover have also manipulated the audio clips

A Reddit thread also noted that there have been multiple times Below decks franchise where the sound was placed in scenes where certain actors looked away from the cameras to add dialogue that was not originally there during filming. Because it happens, it’s no surprise if the producers also splice scenes together to create interactions that weren’t there.

As some fans have pointed out, it’s also possible that the editors had to edit out something that shouldn’t have been there, but as a result things like serving trays look cut in half. Based on the Reddit user’s description, it’s unclear how long this shot, which appears to be a semi-submersible, took. If it was really short, that is the producers probably didn’t think fans would interrupt the scene to discover the truth. If the shot lasted for some time, the producers should have paid more attention while covering up their attempt to manipulate the audience.

We take a stand on the interference and manipulations of Below Deck’s producers

Producers aren’t going to stop manipulating under the deck, despite the outrage

Whether it’s Johnathan and Iain allegedly faking their weak skills or the producers manipulating scenes to create a new story, Reality shows never seem to depict actual reality. In the age of social media, it’s easier for fans to find the truth and call out blatant manipulation. Looks like Below deck, the Mediterranean Sea already contains a lot of drama, so you don’t have to invent scenes from scratch. Unfortunately, we’ll just have to live with it if we’re going to continue watching reality TV because the producers aren’t going to stop, no matter how angry the fans get.
