Ben’s time on the St. David has been rocky in the second half of the season, despite being promoted from the ship’s Lead Deckhand to Bosun following the firing of Jared Woodin. Captain Kerry Titheradge invested his time and energy in Ben, knowing that he could do a good job at the job. Although he has been recognized for his time and work at St. David’s, Ben’s personal life has suffered on the superyachtwhich has made it easier for him to be judgmental about things that happen to the rest of the crew, creating unnecessary drama.

He has stirred the pot
Although Ben has been able to help out in some difficult situations, his time at St. David’s continues Below decks season 11 has not been easy. From the first moments of the season, Ben struggled with authority at St. David’s. First, he had issues with Bosun Jared, who he knew was doing a poor job. After pointing out Jared’s mistakes to the captain and giving his unfiltered opinion, Ben struggled when he was promoted to a new position without much guidance. Although she was excited about the move up, it was a lot more responsibility than she expected.
Aside from his work drama, Ben has been in the mix for some of the season’s most dramatic moments. At the beginning of Charter’s season, he placed himself between Barbie Pascual and Cat Baugh, stirring up drama between them as an interlude to their trash talk. Ben also made sure that Jared’s poor performance was known and told anyone that Jared was making big mistakes. Ben’s instability in keeping things to himself gave him a reputation on a superyacht. It was hard for the rest of the crew to trust him in times of trouble.
Ben’s behavior towards Sunny has been a problem
He doesn’t know what she wants from him
all the time Below decks season 11, Ben’s romance with Marie “Sunny” Marquis has grown from a casual flirtation to a full-blown affair. It worked out quickly and Ben and Sunny were both working on the outdoor team and talking all day, every day connecting them to each other. They both found each other attractive, so it wasn’t long before they decided they wanted to do something about said attraction. Although Ben had sworn he wasn’t going to go on another boat after that Below decks season 10he let go of his inhibitions and went there with Sunny, determined to have fun.
While Ben and Sunny’s relationship has been fun for both of them, their connection has been a source of drama throughout the season. Earlier in the year Below decks season 11, Sunny wanted more from Ben than he was willing to give. She said she wasn’t looking for exclusivity, she just wanted him to respect her as the person she slept with. Ben, who was sensitive and flirted with the other women in the crew, didn’t understand how he was being disrespectful to Sunny. The pair fought about it and argued hard enough for Ben to end things.
Ben is preoccupied with the crew’s problems
He struggles to remain neutral
Instead of remaining a neutral third party in St. David’s, Ben has constantly put himself in other people’s problems on a superyacht and makes him look like he thinks he knows it all. Ben’s attitude as Bosun has been less that of a leader and more of someone who was unprepared for the level of responsibility he was given. Although he is able to handle the job duties, his personal drama and preferences at St. David’s make it difficult for him to complete his job. It has been difficult for Ben to remain neutral in many difficult situations.
At the beginning of the Charter season, Ben struggled through the issues between Barbie and Cat, sometimes on Barbie’s side as she fed her information about what happened, other times on Cat’s side as she gathered information about what happened. Ben also found himself in the middle of Barbie and Fraser’s problems, most recently helping to facilitate communication between Barbie and her boatman Kyle Stillie. Ben tried to remain neutral and let Barbie and Kyle talk aloneinstead putting himself in the middle and pushing his own agenda.
Is Ben the most dramatic yacht this season?
He can’t get out of his own way
Although most of his problems have seemed to be related to his relationship with Sunny, Ben has been one of the most dramatic actors Below decks season 11. Although he hasn’t been involved much in his own drama, Ben has made it clear that he has a stake in the drama happening and wants to be involved if something happens. By placing herself in the drama while maintaining power at St. David’s, she creates a difficult work environment for the people who report to her. Ben’s inability to stay out of drama is a problem.
Although Ben has been able to rise to St. David’s, his need to participate in drama and stir the pot does not make for a good leader. Although Captain Kerry may have promoted Ben to Bosun before he was fully prepared, the fact that he has landed the job and is successful at it bodes well for Ben. It’s just that his social struggles are overwhelming and at times detract from the actual work he’s been doing on the St. David ship. Ben has been the most dramatic actor Below decks throughout this charter season.
