Initiatives to reimagine the flow and aesthetic of Ash Court Care Centre
Works have been staggered and completed in phases to avoid disruption, with progressive investment in the London care facility. Ash Court primarily provides care for older adults, offering services such as respite care, dementia support and palliative and post-operative care, necessitating purpose-built layouts that are easy to navigate.
To date, the finished improvements have included:
- A full remodel of the communal area on the first floor, designing a space that feels homely, with high-quality redecorations that encourage relaxation, inclusive activities and socialising.
- A refurbishment of Suite 47, one of the 62 private suites that are arranged over three floors, each with an ensuite bathroom. This suite is now personalised for the resident and reflects her preferences and personal style.
- Renovations to the ground-floor communal areas, with a redesigned space for chatting and reading, a new kitchenette, upgraded storage capacity and brand-new bathrooms.
Ash Court has shared videos and pictures of the refurbishments via its social media pages, including a touching piece featuring the resident, Agi, who has lived in Suite 47 for 9 years and explains the impacts of the remodelling and how valued she feels at the centre.
How upgraded residential care spaces promote comfort and practicality
Each area has been laid out with soothing, calming colours and soft furnishings, natural planting and timbers, gentle lighting, personalised décor and mounted photos in private rooms, and artwork that makes the centre feel genuinely inviting rather than clinical.
It also features Scandinavian-inspired panelling, candles and interior water features, all of which add to the ambience, which is known to reduce anxiety and improve familiarity, the latter of which is particularly important for residents with cognitive conditions such as dementia.
However, there are also functional considerations, creating clear pathways to enable residents using mobility aids and wheelchairs to navigate the centre independently, with anti-glare lighting that isn’t harsh but also ensures carers can see clearly.
Home manager Priscilla Jeebun from Ash Court says: “We are beyond delighted with the finished impacts of the various redecoration and refurbishment works we’ve been undertaking, and with the overwhelmingly positive feedback we’ve received from residents, colleagues and loved ones.
“By prioritising both the comfy aesthetic of each suite and communal space and ensuring our centre is purpose-designed to protect the welfare of our residents, we’ve been able to develop an environment that has a strong sense of community.”
Upgrades to Ash Court Care Centre are part of a wider program of work being rolled out across Forest Healthcare, which has committed to continual investments in its centres, both modern and converted period properties, to ensure each facility aligns with the best possible care practices.
