Anne Corbett has been elected as Chairman of the Corporation’s Barbican Residential Committee.

The body oversees the management of all residential and commercial premises for the Barbican Estate, which comprises a mixture of homes and small business properties in the heart of the City.

Its role is also to hear any representations made to it by the Barbican Estate Residents’ Consultation Committee, ensuring that residents’ views are accounted for in its decision making.

The site is an iconic Brutalist residential complex of around 2,000 flats, maisonettes, and houses.

It is situated next to the Barbican Arts Centre, the Museum of London, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the Barbican public library, and the School for Girls.

Chairman of the City Corporations Barbican Residential Committee, Anne Corbett said:

“I’m honoured to be elected to chair this committee.

“The Barbican Estate stands as a remarkable success – a vibrant ‘City village’ that draws people from diverse backgrounds and from across the globe to experience its distinctive setting.

“These people play a vital role in City life. Together with my colleagues, I am committed to championing the needs and interests of both our residents and visitors.”

Ms Corbett lives on the Golden Lane Estate, situated in the Square Mile and was elected as a Common Councillor in March 2022.

She is a retired headteacher and education consultant specialising in SEND, safeguarding and school exclusions.

Since 2013 she has worked part-time as a Head of Outreach for Islington schools.

Her key focus areas are resident engagement, social housing, children and young people, and climate change.
