Given the vast success of the ABBA Voyage shows in London, it was only a matter of time before another giant artist was given the hologram treatment. This time, however, it’s one that’s no longer with us.
An Elvis Presley hologram will be premiering in London—before hitting Tokyo, Berlin, and Las Vegas—as part of an “immersive concert experience”, using AI and holographic imagery to create a projection of the beloved star of rock and roll. These will be made up from his personal photos and home videos to create a hologram in celebration of his life and musical legacy.
Named “Elvis Evolution”, the experience is slated to hit London in November 2024, and the event comes after a deal was reached between owners of the Elvis Presley Estate, Authentic Brands Group, and British immersive entertainment company Layered Reality.
More features of the show include an Elvis-themed bar for an after-party at a central London location, with an on-site restaurant with live music acts, a DJ, and more.
“Elvis Evolution is a next-generation tribute to the musical legend that is Elvis Presley,” said Andrew McGuinness, chief executive of Layered Reality when speaking about the deal. Elvis maintains superstar status globally and people around the world no longer want to sit there and passively receive entertainment – they want to be a part of it.
“It’ll be a memory-making experience that will be a bucket-list item for Elvis fans and admirers around the world; people can step into the world of Elvis, walk in his shoes and celebrate his extraordinary musical legacy.”
The news also comes amid the UK release of Priscilla, a Sofia Coppola-directed A24 movie about Priscilla Presley, ex-wife of the singer, as well as the recent 2022 Baz Luhrmann picture Elvis.
As mentioned, the obvious comparison to “Elvis Evolution” are the ABBA Voyage London shows, which depicts life-sized holograms of the ABBA stars in 1979. The show sold 1.3 million tickets in its first year alone, and continues to show at the London ABBA Arena.
There is no exact date or location for “Elvis Evolution” just yet, but it’s expected to kick off in November 2024.
Marc Rosen, president of entertainment at Authentic Brands Group, which owns Elvis Presley Enterprises, also spoke on the shows, saying: “We’re thrilled to partner with Layered Reality to give fans a new, immersive way of experiencing Elvis Presley’s life and legacy.”
