Shoppers are turning to an ‘addictive’ protein meal shake – and it has way less sugar than super popular MyProtein. Whole Supp’s Superfood Meal Shake – which comes with 31g of protein – currently has a pretty high rating of 4.9 out of 216 reviews on their site.
The shake comes in three flavours, including vanilla, chocolate and caramel sea salt. While this falls into the category broadly known as “meal replacement shakes” – including in their recommendation by Men’s Health – try and think of them as ‘nutrition enhancement shakes’ – there’s no replacement for food.
Saying that, they do come packed with 31g of plant based protein, 30 vitamins and minerals (that make up 20 per cent of your recommended daily intake) and 400 calories, making it a good lunch-on-the-go option. In one two scoop serving (100g), the carbohydrates (41g) that sugar are 1.9grams, compared to MyProtein’s Protein Meal Replacement Blend’s (£21.99 for 1kg, 10 servings) 34g, 28g of which sugars.

Spikes and crashes in glucose can cause you to be feel more hungry and healthy carbohydrates are good at stopping snaking. On the other hand, MyProtein shakes have 392 calories and 34g of protein per 100g.
Comparing Whole Supp’s shake to the likes of Huel Black Edition (£28.50 per bag, 17 meals) – who offer plant based protein instead of whey, like MyProtein – they boast 40g of protein and 26 minerals per 90g portion. In 100g, they have 18g of carbs and 5g of those sugar.
The Whole Supp shake made Men’s Health’s list of best meal replacement shakes, saying: “In terms of taste, it’s clean, smells pleasant, has a smooth texture and mixes well. We tried the vanilla version, but it also comes in chocolate or caramel sea salt flavours if you want more of a dessert or milkshake-like taste.” Their con is there aren’t a lot of flavours but as a vanilla protein shake man myself, they seem plenty.

Reviewing the bundle, one shopper said: “It’s addictive I have had it every morning throughout my pregnancy and beyond. It helps with energy and great when you don’t have a huge amount of time but want to make healthy choices.” Another added: “Very quick and convenient to make and consume, tastes very nice and definitely notice that I’ve got more energy and recover quicker!”
A third remarked: “Absolutely amazing, flavour is out of this world nice. I’m left full but haven’t the sick full feeling of other proteins and is very easy on the stomach…cant wait to try out another flavour. Customer for life here definitely.” However, a less satisfied person wrote: “(Vanilla) Not as good as the chocolate. It’s a tiny bit grainy but still a good shake.”
