An autumnal image of Hyde Park in London with a small image of a woman screaming overlayed

As much we love our big, bright, brilliant city, we Londoners sure do have plenty of things to scream about. And not just because Halloween is fast-approaching. Whether it’s rent-increases, redundancies, or (*shudders at the thought of them*) red signals; it seems as though we city-dwellers are harbouring a fair bit of pent-up anger. But fear not, folks. We may have just found the perfect way to relieve some of that stress: a scream club. Yes, really.

It does what it says on the tin, really. A scream club is a group of people coming together to let off some steam by having a big collective scream. It’s as simple as that. Scream clubs are already popular over in the States, but a ‘London Scream Squad’ has recently set up shop, and the first event was a roaring success. Quite literally.

The London Scream Squad

Organiser, Mona Shariforiginally took to TikTok to propose the idea. When the video started gaining traction, she set up a Whatsapp group chat, and it turned that over 1000 Londoners wanted to get in on the action. The first event took place on October 10 in Primrose Hill, and it was such a hit, the next event is already in the calendar. If you fancy joining Mona for a scream, the next Scream Squad event will be taking place in Hyde Park this Saturday (October 18).

Now, it goes without saying that you need to be mindful and respectful if attending a scream club event. The event should be a safe and enjoyable experience for those attending, so please only attend with good intentions. The Hyde Park scream will start at 4.15pm and last for fifteen minutes, and attendees are encouraged to arrive between 3pm and 4pm. As cathartic as screaming must be, there’s more to the London Scream Squad than just, well… screaming. Mona is hoping to build a community, open up conversations, and help combat London’s loneliness crisis.

So, whether you’ve been dumped, fired, or forced to stand behind one too many tourists struggling to grasp the concept of standing on the right; the London Scream Squad could be the perfect way to release that rage.

Find out more about the London Scream Club and join the Whatsapp group chat here.
