There’s something about the drive-by convenience of a window doling out food and drinks that simply tickles our fancy. You best believe I’m standing in line when park-adjacent pubs start serving to-go pints from a side-bar or window to enjoy on the grass. And I simply adore London’s new tiramisu window. And now, bringing a slice of Italian life to London, a centuries-old tradition is landing on our streets today in the form of a beer window.
You’ve probably seen Italy’s infamous wine windows all over your social media feeds – well, this is very similar, just replacing the wine with ice-cold beer! That’s right, no longer will you have to make the labourious trek all the way inside a pub and up to a bar to order your lunch-time or post-work pint. Instead, you can just pass right by and grab a drink to go.
Menabrea is bringing the Italian tradition of beer hole (beer window) to London in a bid to remind Londoners “to pause (and) take a breather”. Londoners can grab Menabrea beers from the window as they pass by. But you’ll have to act fast because the beer window will only be operating for one day only – and that’s today (August 27)!
Where to find the beer window
The Menabrea beer window will be serving ice-cold pints today (August 27) between 12-3pm and from 5-7pm.
You’ll find the beer window at Kachette, 347 Old Street, EC1V 9LP. That’s just off the intersection outside Shoreditch Church. It’s situated roughly an equal distance away from Old Street, Shoreditch High Street, and Hoxton stations.
Look for it under the train arch, embedded into the wall. Or simply look for the queue of thirsty Londoners looking for a Mena-break.
So if you find yourself in Shoreditch today at lunchtime, or wandering around after work, head on out and check out the beer window. It’s a chance to pause and enjoy life’s simple pleasures. You know – beer out of a hole in the wall…
