A Major New Pablo Picasso Exhibition Has Opened In London – It’s Absolutely FREE To Visit And Features Over 130 Pieces That Range From Lithograph Prints To Drawings And Ceramics

An impressive new exhibition has arrived in London, hot on the heels of the city’s Frieze Week celebrations, celebrating the work of one of the world’s most famous painters. Picasso: A Legacy opens at Halcyon today (October 16) and features over 130 artworks from, you guessed it, Pablo Picasso. Oh, and it’s completely FREE to visit!

The pieces on display come from the last four decades of Picasso’s lifeduring which time he created art at a rapid rate. They include works on paper and ceramics, and portray everything from the artist’s lovers and muses to mythological creatures and abstract self-portraiture. (What – Picasso? Abstract? What a shock, I know!)

The pieces fall into 6 distinct themes in the exhibition. These are:

  • Artist and Model
  • Artist’s Muses
  • Alter Egos
  • Finding Peace
  • Still Lifes and Ceramics
  • Creativity, Legacy and Death

Through these themes, one can see Picasso being inspired by new people in his life, grappling with his mortality, and playing with new forms and subjects. The outcome is a body of work that is full of “humour, acerbic parody and moments of witty self-reflection”.

The Halcyon gallery is renowned for its often unexpected exhibitions of international art superstars, as well as left-of-centre shows. The space has previously hosted shows with interactive butterfly displays, as well as showcasing works from the likes of Andy Warhol and Bob Dylan.

Said Kate Brown, Vice President & Creative Director, Halcyon:

“With fury and unabashed imagination, Picasso changed the course of art history, placing him in the annals of history’s greatest artists. This exhibition offers a unique glimpse into Picasso’s astonishing and restless creativity during the final four decades of his career. Through works on paper and ceramics, we see how he continually reinvented himself, pushing mediums into bold new expressions that capture both the vitality of his later years and the timeless spirit of his art.”

📍 Picasso: A Legacy is available to see now at Halcyon, 148 New Bond Street, W1S 2JT. The nearest stations are Bond Street and Oxford Circus.

🎟️ The exhibition is free to enter and open daily.
