Speak to any Londoner about classic cocktails, and they’ll ram the argument for which is ‘the best’ down your throat. Negronis this, mojitos that… sure, they might be perfectly acceptable answers, but can either of them claim to have a whole mile of bars dedicated to drinking them on a crawl for a whole week?
That’s where the tequila-based favourite, salted-rim or unsalted, has the edge, with a Margarita Mile comprised of 26 bars arriving in London from February 19-25. Having run successfully in Manchester last year, the Margarita Miles is now trebling its number of locations, with launches in Leeds and London; all to celebrate the love of the tequila cocktail, and handily coinciding with National Margarita Day (February 22).
Which bars are involved in the Margarita Mile in London?
From the Red Hand in Stoke Newington over to the Star by Liverpool StreetLondoners can make their way along the thoroughfares of Hackney all the way to the centre of the city on a walking tour with Margarita pit stops along the way.
Of course, every bar along the way will be showing off their very best Margarita cocktails, but there are even more ways to get in the (agave) spirit along the way. Snack bar in Dalston are kicking things off early each day with a breakfast burrito on offer alongside a frozen margs, and Home in Shoreditch will host Steffan Oghene, El Tequileño’s global brand ambassador, and the team from Two Fingers Bar in Bathwho will be serving up their ‘riff’ on a margarita on February 21. Elsewhere, Mildreds will be serving up a Blood Orange margarita which just sounds too divine not to mention?
Who is behind creating a mile-long route of fine London establishments for you to sip on Margaritas? That would be the folks at The Tequileñothe Mexican tequila brand that hails from Tequila (the place) itself. Maldon Salteveryone’s favourite fancy seasoning, and Tabasco are also involved which, given their reputation for being total flavour-enhancers and appearing on the rims, makes total sense.
To top off the week, anyone who tags @el_tequileno and @tenlocksdrinks in a photo of their Margaritas along the mile will also be eligible to win a goodie bag of tequila-themed treats. Tasty cocktails along a buzzing London crawl finished off with free alcohol? I’d run a enjoy a few drinks along a mile for that.
Speaking about the mile, Steffan Oghene said: “El Tequileño encourages everyone, from cocktail fans to tequila lovers to those who want to learn more about quality craft spirits, to get out on the mile to try a Margarita. We are super proud to be extending the Margarita Mile to 3 key UK cities in 2024 including London. Tony and I look forward to meeting the people of London out on the mile!”
Margarita Miles celebrations come to an end with a lively closing party at Callooh Callay, which will put a cherry on a week of all things agave cocktails. Last one to reach the end of the mile is a rotten *insert inferior cocktail name here*.
You don’t need any tickets to enjoy the Margarita Mile between February 19-25 – simply pick your bars, drop by and head in to order your tequila-based tipples. El Tequileño also reminds everyone to please drink responsibly!
