An image of the new live London Underground tube map

If you’ve been hanging around this little corner of the internet for a while now (or – to be quite honest – any amount of time at all), you’ll know that one thing we Secret Londoners absolutely can’t resist is a little bit of transport talk. From trains and trams to bikes and buses; those handy things that’s ferry us around the city will always have our interest piqued. And it seems as though we’re not alone, as someone has just created a game-changing new map of the London Underground.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. There’s nothing particularly pioneering about a London Tube map. But, let me tell you, folks – this is not any old London Tube map. This is a live London Tube map that details the exact location, destination and model of each train – in real time. Pretty revolutionary, right?

Created by engineer and writer, Ben James; the animated map uses Transport for London open data to pinpoint exactly where each train is, where it’s heading, and when it will reach the next few stations. The same recognisable colours that we know and love represent the Tube lines, and each station is shown with a circle. You can watch as the trains move along the lines in real time, and are able to see any traffic, delays, or blockages along the way.

As well as being incredibly useful, it’s also just very entertaining to use. The interactive map allows you to zoom in and out. When fully zoomed out, you can see an expansive topography of the capital city, and as you zoom in, 3D images of iconic London landmarks are revealed. Just make sure you don’t spend so long gawping at the map that you actually miss your train in real life, hey?

Explore the live London Tube map here.
