Do you know what’s better than Christmas? Dogs. (Bear with me, I promise I’m going somewhere with this.) And do you know what’s better than dogs? Dogs in costumes. And do you know what trumps all of those things altogether? Dogs in costumes going on a Christmassy parade around Hyde Park – and that’s exactly what’s coming to London this winter. And as if it wasn’t already adorable enough, it’s specifically a sausage walk Christmas parade; yup, it’s a parade of sausage dogs in Christmas costumes.

On Sunday, December 14, the Hyde Park Sausage Walk Christmas Parade will land in London. This will result in a “magical dachshund takeover of Hyde Park (Kensington Gardens)”.

The Christmas Sausage Walk is exactly what it says on the tin. It’s a chance for London’s sausage dog owners and enthusiasts to turn up (with their dogs in tow, of course!), go for a walk in the park, and enjoy the company of a park full of sausage dogs.

There will be awards up for grabs to recognise the best-dressed dachshund attendees. These are:

  • Best Group
  • Cutest
  • Most Original
  • And most likely more awards on the day, since “it’s always impossible to choose!”

Organising the sausage walk

The event has been organised by canine internet celebrity, Winston the mini Dachshund (and his owner). Winston has been organising sausage walks for going on 8 years now.

This past year saw the events explode in popularity. Winston even appeared on The Last Leg! Unfortunately, this did result in the Royal Parks contacting Winston, leading to the cancellation of their Hyde Park Sausage Walk Halloweenie Party. While the Halloween event did NOT take place, plenty of people turned up anyway to stroll with their dogs around Hyde Park in their fearsomely adorable costumes.

After the Halloween event was cancelled (and definitely did NOT take place in any official capacity), Royal Parks has been working together with Winston on the event. They have since kindly granted permission for the Christmas event to proceed.

However, it’s important for the event organisers to have an idea of how many people will turn up! So, head on over to the event page and comment “I’m in!” if you’re planning on attending. And be sure to tag any friends you’ll be bringing with you.

Keep up with the latest updates on the Hyde Park Sausage Walks here.
