With Netflix Bridgerton Fans of the third season of the Book pondered one scene in the finale, where Francesca Bridgerton looks at her husband Jack Stirling’s cousin.
Bridgerton Season 3 focused a lot on Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington’s characters, but Francesca Bridgerton (now technically Francesca Stirling) was also a major player.
The season is considered to be “star rain stick” Queen Charlotte instead of the diamond, Francesca looked at her a lot. However, although he found his match by the end of season 3, the finale revealed that he was eyeing someone else.
Bridgerton Season 3 Francesca Tease
in the season 3 finale BridgertonAfter the wedding of Francesca Bridgerton and John Stirling, Earl of Kilmartin, the couple (along with other members of the Toni) attended a ball at Dankworth-Finch.
While there, Francesca’s husband John announced that he had someone he would like to introduce to her – his cousin Michaela Stirling.
Fans immediately noticed Michaela’s starry eyed look that Francesca gave Michaela Bridgerton in introduction, wondering what exactly that meant and why Francesca was beginning to stumble over his words.
When you look at the Julia Quinn book series that the show is based on, it’s clear that this episode was a tease of what’s to come.
In the scene, Francesca seems immediately attracted to Michaela, who comes up later.
However, some fans have openly expressed their disappointment with this revelation, as Michaela’s gender has been switched from the source material, where the character was originally known as Michael.
In the sixth book of the series When He was evil, Francesca and Michael meet, but the former is not interested in the latter. Instead, Michael first has feelings for Francesca.
However, John falls ill and dies, which is why Michael moves to India. However, he returns, albeit four years later, where he still has feelings for Francesca.
After spending time together and supporting each other in grief, Francesca falls in love with Michael and forms an official relationship.
This is a bit different from the show where Francesca seems to be instantly in love with Michaela.
The third season finale Bridgerton teased that there would be a romance between Francesca and Michaela at some point, but the show changed things up a bit by making Francesca emotional first and gender-swapping John’s cousin.
Why Are Fans Upset Over Bridgerton’s Francesca Reveal?
Although reveals at the end Bridgerton Season 3 turned out to be a big one, with some fans unhappy with how things turned out, especially how the show handled Francesca meeting Michaela for the first time.
In the books, Francesca isn’t immediately interested in John’s cousin. Instead, she loves John, and they have a happy marriage.
Unfortunately, however, they struggle with infertility despite wanting a child, which made many fans sympathize with Francesca in the books (especially the sixth book).
Some argue that since Francesca was already interested in John’s cousin, it weakens her relationship with John; regardless of the struggles they’ll go through in the coming seasons, won’t hold as much weight.
In the book, after John’s death, Francesca goes through even more difficult times. In addition to feeling the weight of not being able to have a child, she has to deal with the loss of her husband.
However, since John’s cousin returns to the books, she is able to grieve with him, which inevitably leads to her falling in love with him. Many say that since he is already interested in Michaela on the show, this weakens his character.
However, fans will have to wait and see how Francesca’s story unfolds on the show when future seasons are released.
