The infamous Korean Netflix dating show, Single Inferno season 3 ended with Lee Gwan-hee and Choi Hye-Seon leaving the island as a couple, but Gwan-hee’s behavior was a collection of red flags. Season 3 brought together 12 individual contestants, evenly split between men and women, to take on “Hell Island” challenges, make connections, compete for dates and compete for various prizes, including a chance to stay at a luxury hotel.
In the original fitting session Single Inferno in season 3, professional basketball player Gwan-hee and student Hye-Seon chose each other. They enjoy a lovely night in paradise together, but Gwan-hee’s interest extended to at least three other women as the season progressed. Despite this, Hye-Seon remained loyal to Gwan-hee. They ended up picking each other up again at the end of the season. They have since broken up, but Hye-seon deserves better anyway.

8 Neglecting Hye-seon

Single Inferno season 3 opened with Gwan-hee and Hye-seon choosing each other and spending an amazing night together in Paradise. Although Hye-seon remained loyal to Gwan-hee throughout the rest of the season, she did not give him the same attention. Gwan-hee was interested in no less than four women while on the island, and even though he eventually chose Hye-seon, he neglected her for most of the season.

Although Gwan-hee was already interested in three different women, when a new girl, Choi Min-ji, arrived in the middle of the season, Gwan-hee immediately became interested in her as well. He showed an interest in Gwan-hee and even pulled her aside to talk, which was the start of one conversation Single Inferno season 3 hottest love triangles. He hinted to Min-ji that he was interested in her. Actually on camera interview Gwan-hee motioned to Min-ji, whom she had been waiting for. He made Min-ji think she was the one for him, but left him hanging.

Gwan-hee met office worker Yun Ha-jeong when the two camps merged during the second episode, in a shocking twist in the game. Gwan-hee and Ha-jeong nailed it, and even had the most entertaining banter and dynamic of the season, which was even delightful Single Inferno season 3 hosts. At some point during the season Gwan-hee seemed to like Ha-jeong more than the other women he consideredbut in the end he chose Hye-seon.

It just wasn’t Single Inferno season 3 star Gwan-hee was interested in Hye-seon, Min-ji, and Ha-jeong, but at one point even entertained the idea of dating model Kim Gyu-ri. This the outrageous move is indicative of Gwan-hee’s toxic arrogance and sense of entitlement which prevailed throughout the season. He went back and forth between women all season and it was never clear where any of them stood with him until Single Inferno season 3 finale.

When Hye-seon won the women’s challenge, she got to choose the man she wanted to take to Paradise, and chose Gwan-hee. Min-ji was disappointed to finish third because he was too wanted to take Gwan-hee, but had to settle for Park Min-kyu. The two couples shared a helicopter ride to Paradise, during which Min-ji repeatedly tried to get Gwan-hee’s attention. When he just ignored her, she lost her cool and sobbed into Min-kyu’s shirt. Min-ji’s overly emotional behavior was inappropriate and made her look immature, but Gwan-hee’s treatment of Min-ji was cold. In the end, Min-ji chose Gwan-hee, but she chose Hye-seon.
“Push him down a little”
Some of Gwan-hee’s most toxic behavior has occurred since filming Single Inferno season 3. According to KoreabooGwan-hee recently said that when she first met Ha-jeong on the show, she got the feeling that he was a challenge and that he felt he had to “push him down a little.” He seemed to mean that he had to bring Ha-jeong down to earth because she was too strong-willed and needed to be tamed. This can have chauvinistic undertones when used in reference to an outspoken woman like Ha-jeong.

Organizing the show
The red flags were there from the start. During the first period Single Inferno season 3, Gwan-hee said her goal was to make this the most entertaining season yet. In hindsight, the statement may imply that his behavior during season 3 was for show. Gwan-hee was probably the most popular and entertaining actor on the island, but his behavior towards women was inappropriate and unacceptable regardless of his motivation. Since Gwan-hee and Hye-seon broke up in Inferno, fans may never know if her feelings were real or if she was faking them.
1 Dehumanizing female actors
“This, that and this.”
During the fourth period Single Inferno in season 3 the islanders all gathered around the campfire to chat and play games. During the meeting, Gwan-hee admitted that she was interested in Gyu-ri in addition to Hye-seon and Ha-jeong, pointing to each of the three women and referring to them “this, that and this.” Since he knew the women’s names, there was no reason to refer to them in such inhumane terms. Her friend Single Inferno season 3 co-star Yun Ha-bin snapped at her to call her out, but Gwan-hee was completely shameless.
