In an online community, Korean and international ONCEs were not bothered by TWICE’s “low” ranking on Korean music charts with “I GOT YOU”.
Here is what happened.
TWICE’s “low” ranking on music charts is being ignored by ONCE for THIS reason
Earlier on February 2nd, TWICE released their highly anticipated preview track and third English language digital single “I GOT YOU”.
The song received positive feedback internationally, with many ONCEs praising its uplifting music, cinematography, emotional depth and TWICE’s performance.
Various online communities were also on fire, as fans shared their thoughts on TWICE’s beautiful runway. Some were emotional as they indulged in the MV’s impeccable animation and visuals that captured TWICE’s emotions.
However, amid the song’s popularity outside of Korea, netizens noticed that “I GOT YOU” underperformed on the country’s music charts. For a powerhouse girl group like TWICE, netizens are understandably shocked as to why the song ranks low on MelOn, Genie, and Bugs.
“Melon”
“Genius”
“The song didn’t make the Bugs list either. »
Netizens were divided in the comments section of a forum, claiming that TWICE’s poor performance on the national music charts was due to the song being an all-English release.
Some disagreed, saying that this was not the case for LE SSERAFIM’s English single “Perfect Night” and that language was not a valid reason for a song’s low ranking.
- “But it’s an English song. »
- “I didn’t know they released a song in English. »
- “But ‘Perfect Night’ was also an English song, and it was number 1 in our charts just a few days ago. It’s not because it’s an English song.
However, the majority of ONCEs were reasonable on the subject, as they responded that TWICE’s domestic ranking doesn’t matter because the group is currently enjoying success overseas.
Fans also said that TWICE had already won back-to-back top spots in their career and that they had nothing left to prove, as they are now one of the most successful girl groups in the world.
- “To be honest, TWICE has had #1 hits for about four years straight. They are now making music they love, touring and rocking like idols.
- “I bet they feel so relieved that they don’t have to do concerts at the end of the year and go on multiple stages. »
- “They don’t need to draw a map, so who cares? They have all the recognition possible, a solid fan base, fairly regular returns and steady income. They’re not ready for the next few years.
- “They’ve already started to lose steam on the domestic charts, but they’re doing so well on the foreign charts, so it doesn’t matter. »
- “In any case, they do very well abroad and they advertise. »
- “TWICE has nothing to prove, they’re an established group with tons of success. The fact that they’re still selling out arenas is unbelievable.
