For fans of Money Heist, the Spanish crime drama that took Netflix by storm back in 2017, you’ll be pleased to know that its creators, Álex Pina and Esther Martínez Lobato, have joined forces again to create its prequel.
Simply titled, Berlin, the series focuses on the life of Andrés de Fonollosa – otherwise known as Berlin – in an “undefined past” before the events of seasons one and two of the original show. Which, btw, saw “an unusual group of robbers attempt to carry out the most perfect robbery in Spanish history – stealing €2.4 billion from the Royal Mint of Spain.”
However, for those curious about what to expect in a little more detail from Berlin, the show is set during Fonollosa/Berlin’s prime, as he prepares to pull off one of the most ambitious robberies of his career – and of all time. That is, heading to Paris with one of the gangs he’s previously robbed with to steal €44 million in jewels. But there’s a twist: he wants the robbery to appear as if it were an illusionist act.
All sound completely thrilling, enticing, and edge-of-your-seat binge-worthy? Well, plenty of fans who’ve already watched the available eight episodes can confirm that it’s provided them with exactly these feels. So much so, that they’ve all taken to X, formerly known as Twitter to rave about the show – and collectively call for a season two. Like, ASAP.
“Every money heist related show is a masterpiece IM LOVING THIS! #BERLINnetflix,” one person gushed, while a second agreed, adding: “#BERLINnetflix I’m hooked, I’m already on to episode 4.”
Similarly, a third fan penned: “Wait are we getting a season 2? I’m UPP! #BERLINnetflix,” as a fourth asked the streaming platform: “#Berlin Season 2 when bro @netflix?”
And if you weren’t already convinced about adding Berlin to your ‘what do I watch next? list,’ here are a few more tweets that might seal the deal…
Berlin is now streaming on Netflix.
