The city’s iconic Mayfair street famed for traditional bespoke tailoring harking back to the 18th century will be illuminated by their Christmas lights display from next week, in all its dazzling glimmering glory. This year’s light display has taken sartorial inspiration from tailors’ workshops debuting a new design since Savile Row’s inaugural Christmas lights display in 2019.
Be sure to mark Thursday November 16 on your calendars folks as it will see the debut and switch on of the Row’s new twinkling Christmas lights and inject a hefty dose of festive cheer to the streets of London. The new Christmas lights display is inspired by an iconic tool found in every tailor’s workshop, a pair of shears. Pairs and pairs of giant golden illuminated shears will be seen cutting through a glittering pealight swathe of ‘fabric’ above the street, from the corner of Clifford Street and finishing on the corner of Burlington Gardens.
Sustainability is at the forefront of Savile Row’s new light display that’s made from 5,154 LED bulbs which use extra-low energy making them energy-efficient and planet-friendly. What’s more, parts of the decorations which have been made using 3D printing have been printed on 100% recyclable plastic meaning they can be reused again and again for different purposes – that’s definitely a plus in our books.
To mark this special occasion and keep the merriment going, a number of tailors and retailers on Savile Row will be open late and offer visitors festive treats, drinks and more in-store. These include Cad & The Dandy, Gieves & Hawkes, Davies & Son, Drake’s, Holland & Sherry, Maurice Sedwell, The Service and The Deck to name a few, along with live music from Drake’s and complimentary stationery personalisation Pineider.
Jenny Caseborne, Head of Portfolio at The Pollen Estate said: “The Pollen Estate is delighted to introduce new Christmas lights on Savile Row, commencing the festive period at this iconic destination. The lights capture the essence of craftsmanship perfectly, with the icon of the shears at the forefront. Everyone is welcome to visit Savile Row to experience our new lights this festive season.”
