Some people have been charged over £20 for a one-stop journey, they claim

17:25, 03 Apr 2026Updated 17:31, 03 Apr 2026

Transport for London (TfL) said it is investigating a ‘glitch’ after customers claim they were overcharged over the last few days.

Local page @batterseabeat flagged the issue – which appears to have occurred to some customers at Clapham Junction station. The post reads: “WARNING If you’ve made a journey to / from Clapham Junction Station in the last few days, be sure to check how much you’ve been charged. We’ve had loads of messages from locals who have been overcharged by TfL even after tapping in and out at the barriers. The best thing to do is visit the TfL website or app to request a refund. If anyone has any more info, please share in the comments below.”

TfL told MyLondon it’s investigating this issue. Some customers have claimed this is not the first time this issues has occurred at Clapham Junction station. It is currently unclear whether the issue also happened at other stations over the last few days. Customers are urged to check their recent TfL charges.

One shocked passenger said they were ‘charged £21’ to go from Waterloo to Clapham Junction – which is one stop. A second said: “Yess happened to me too! Saying I didn’t tap in at Clapham Junction. Looks like barriers aren’t registering – my journeys all show unknown destination at CJ.” Another added: “Happened to me and my partner yesterday!!! CJ to Victoria £15 It’s crazy”

Another mentioned their housemate paid ‘20 quid’ to get from Clapham Junction to Earlsfield, which is one stop. And a fourth said they’ve ‘spoken’ to TfL which confirmed to them there is a ‘known issue.’
