In our profile series, Tell Us In Ten, we ask cast members and creatives of top London shows to tell us all about themselves in just 10 questions. From how they got their start in the industry to their favourite shows, we want to know everything.
This time we’re chatting to Sammy Moore who is starring as Flop in Derrière On A G String – the must-see comedy which delights in turning some of the greatest classical hits into a homoerotic romp of glorious chaos. Think Matthew Bourne meets Mr Bean, set to everyone’s favourite classical music.
1) My route into theatre was…
In year 7 my amazing drama teacher, Suzi Clegg, pulled me aside and said “you’re a brilliant wee actor” which was the first time i’d ever considered acting as a profession. My GCSE Drama teacher, Alison Hurst, was also an amazing influence on me as she exuded passion with an incredible sense of humour. From then on I threw myself into any and all acting opportunities and was lucky enough to train at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts.
2) My West End idol is…
I’d say my idol is everyone ever cast in Billy Elliot, they’re all phenomenal! I also loved Charlie Stemp in Crazy For you and thought he was just so good, I aspire to perform like Charlie!

3) My colleagues would describe me as…
Energetic, caring and sensitive!
4) My favourite show (that isn’t one I star in/work on) is…
Billy Elliot is mine and my Mum’s favourite musical and I dreamed of playing Billy or being in a show as moving as that. Sadly, it wasn’t meant to be but weirdly that’s part of what keeps me driven now!
5) The career moment I’m most proud of is…
I was very lucky to be cast in a Disney TV series in 2015 and as that’s something I dreamed of as a child, it was a real pinch me moment! I’m also already extremely proud of Derrière and I think this iteration is going to reach new heights!
6) The hardest part about my job/role is…
The hardest part of playing Flop is definitely the physical exertion for 8 shows a week! It’s incredibly draining and requires a lot of rest however, the joy of the show and live audience response is enough to keep one going as if they were a Duracell Bunny.

7) If I wasn’t an actor, I would be…
I used to always say Lawyer because TV makes it looks so cool and is there anyone better than Harvey Specter in Suits? No, no there is not. Alas, I realised there’s a lot of boring reading involved so I will say what I actually am…which is a theatre producer!
8) Something people don’t know about me is…
I have an awful singing voice but that does not stop me from singing. If you tell me I can’t sing, which I know and agree with, I will still be hurt. I don’t make the rules.
9) The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given is…
Understanding is the key to peace. Oh and stop singing.
10) The one thing I wish I could tell my younger self is…
Take those singing lessons you absolute fool!
