Mr Motivator has launched a campaign to help local experts support children facing bed poverty.

The online fitness coach, whose real name is Derrick Evans, has created an initiative called ‘Mr Motivator’s Bed Bank’ to help end bed poverty – which sees nearly one million children across the UK sleeping in shared spaces or on floors as they do not have access to a bed, according to Barnardo’s 2023 ‘No crib for a bed’ report.

As part of the project that was launched in December last year, Mr Motivator has created a petition and fundraising campaignwith donations being handed to specialist delivery partners and local experts to ensure a bed is provided for children in need.

It also involves collaboration with local charities and community groups to help deliver ‘immediate, practical support’ to residents.

The campaign describes bed poverty as a ‘hidden crisis that leaves parents and carers with the heartbreaking stress of knowing their child is starting every day on the back foot’.

Its mission statement explains that without good quality rest, children will struggle to stay healthy and focus in school, as well as highlighting that the absence of a bed equates to ‘the weight of not having a safe, warm, and comfortable place to call your own’.

‘We believe a bed is more than just furniture — it is the foundation of a child’s wellbeing. We speak with empathy and act with understanding, building trusted partnerships, to make sure no child is left behind, giving them the safe place to sleep and the fair start they deserve’, the statement reads.
