And it’s bringing back Grease for another year
It’s just been announced that Secret Cinema, known for its ambitious immersive film screenings, is moving into a long-term home in Greenwich later this year but before it puts down roots, we’re getting another summer extravaganza in Battersea Park. We had heard rumours that the crew would be bringing us a BarbieLand experience but there’s been no update on that as yet. Instead we’re getting the return of a fan fave as Rydell High will be pitching up for another run of Grease: The Immersive Movie Musical across your summer nights.
The two-and-a-half hour production, directed by Matthew Costain (who’s worked on other Secret Cinema events including Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Stranger Things, Bridgerton, and Dirty Dancing) brings the iconic musical to life with giant multi-screen platforms throughout the venue, live music, a summer fairground, and American diner-inspired food and drink. There’s also a cast of 30 performers moving around the space, so you can hang with Sandy, Danny, the T-Birds and the Pink Ladies as the action unfolds around you.
If you’ve been to a Secret Cinema event before then you’ll know the level of production that these guys put in – we’re talking indoor rain for Blade Runner – The Final Cut, a recreation of Kellerman’s resort for Dirty Dancingand cars driving around the Montague garage for William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet – so you can expect to be fully transported back to the fifties for Grease.
If tickets to Grease: The Immersive Experience are the ones that you want, you can sign up for pre-sale access below.
