Residents have claimed “the whole street is in shock”

A south-east London community has been left shaken after a woman was violently struck by a speeding car in what witnesses described as a ‘targeted attack’.

The woman, in her 20s, was hit with such force that she was thrown across the road as she attempted to get into a parked vehicle on Harrow Manorway, Abbey Wood.

Footage of the incident shows a red car swinging sharply around a corner before veering directly towards the victim, ramming into her from behind and continuing without braking. Residents who rushed to her aid said the driver’s behaviour appeared intentional, sparking suspicion that the woman may have been singled out.

The Metropolitan Police has confirmed an investigation is underway to identify the driver after the incident, which they attended after being called by the London Ambulance Service at around 6.30pm on Sunday (March 8).

“We realise the concern this incident will cause the local community and want to reassure that detectives are working at pace to identify the suspect,” the Met confirmed in a statement.

“Enquiries are ongoing, and we are keeping an open mind about any possible motive at this stage. Anyone with information that could help police should call 101 quoting CAD4804/8Mar.”

The victim was taken to hospital where her condition has been deemed not to be life-threatening or life-changing. She has since been discharged. No arrests have been made at this stage.

Nearby residents have described the collision as being a “targeted attack”, telling the Daily Mail: “That poor woman looks like she was targeted. It’s appalling.

“The driver did not stop. How on earth did that happen? The whole street is in shock. It’s full of families and children.”

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed the service was called at around 4.30pm on Sunday, to reports of a road traffic collision. “We sent an ambulance crew, an incident response officer and a paramedic in a fast response car to the scene. Our first crews arrived in less than five minutes,” they added.

“We treated a woman at the scene and took her to hospital as a priority.”
