Trees and flowers are beginning to bloom, and temperatures are warming up, which can only mean one thing: spring is just around the corner. Unfortunately, the months ahead are notorious for their unpredictable weather.

Gloomy days and chilly nights are therefore not about to disappear, as depressing as that may sound. However, we are also going through a cost-of-living crisis, and if I can avoid running my heating for several more weeks, I will gladly do so.

Except that I tend to get cold easily and the house I live in isn’t very well insulated, so it’s a real dilemma. But if you find yourself in the same situation, don’t fret, because I’ve found a solution to my problem, and I can’t believe I managed without it for all these years.

You may already be familiar with what I am about to present to you. If not, allow me to introduce you to one of the best inventions ever created: the heated throw.

A very simple concept on paper, yet oh so useful. I recently got one off Amazon, and my life has been transformed since.

One of its main advantages is that you can use it on your bed at night or when taking a mid-afternoon nap, but you can also take it with you wherever you go, provided you have a power socket nearby.

The heated throw features six heating levels and 10 timer settings. It’s also machine washable and costs from from just £0.03 to run per hour.

This makes it, in my opinion, more functional than a simple electric blanket that you place on top of your mattress. You can also use it on the sofa to snuggle up, or even at your desk.

And as someone who regularly works from home, it’s a real treat. The model I opted for -which is now £37.96, down from £53.99 – features six heating levels and 10 timer settings.

Not only does it heat up very quickly, but I don’t even need to set it to maximum because it generates so much warmth. Best of all, it’s machine washable and costs from just £0.03 to run per hour.

This means you can use it for long periods of time without fear of breaking the bank. And if all that wasn’t enough to convince you, Maple the Frenchton has deemed it her favourite thing to lie on (or under) in the house – and she’s very particular about comfort.

Alternatively, you could opt for the Luxury Ribbed Faux Fur Heated Throw from Silentnight, currently on offer at £63. There’s also the IGENIX Heated Throw, retailing for £44.99 at Robert Dyas.

You can get the Bedsure Heated Blanket Electric Throw here. Shop the Luxury Ribbed Faux Fur Heated Throw at Silentnight and the IGENIX Heated Throw at Robert Dyas.
