South East London has long been dismissed by those unfamiliar with the area, but locals know this part of the city boasts its own character, and one that properly marks it out from the rest. As it happens, it’s also home to one of London’s most beautiful parks.

Admittedly, Greenwich Park doesn’t enjoy the iconic surroundings of St James’ Park and Green Park, nor the vast expanses of Hyde Park or Regent’s Park, but it possesses an unspoilt charm and vistas that rank amongst the finest the capital has to offer.

It also happens to be the premier destination for viewing cherry blossom during a spring stroll.

TimeOut awarded Greenwich Park this accolade, meaning it surpassed more renowned locations like Kew Gardens. Quite an achievement, wouldn’t you say?

Cherry blossom is usually at its peak in London throughout April, but sometimes lasts until May. It’s also been known – including last spring – to flower as early as mid-March.

Pick the right spot, as well as the right time of the year, and you could be walking beneath a virtual arch of cherry blossom, the sunlight streaming through gaps in the branches. And even once you leave the park, Greenwich is easily one of the best neighbourhoods in London for a day out.

In fact, it was named one of the best places to live for 2026. Given the accolade by Muddy Stilettos, we headed down to speak to locals, and one thing kept coming up – how friendly everyone is.

“I love Greenwich, it’s fantastic,” said Anne Kearne, who’s lived in Greenwich since the 60s, “Great community, lovely shops and markets, and a train station!”

Greenwich Park was also, rather fortuitously, crowned London’s top spot for dogs. Rover.com declared it the ultimate destination for venturing out with your four-legged companions.

The magazine’s complete rankings are listed below:.

1. Greenwich Park

2. Regent’s Park

3. St James’ Park

4. Kew Gardens

5. Kensington Gardens

6. St Paul’s Cathedral

7. Kyoto Garden, Holland Park

8. Alexandra Palace

9. Crouch End
