West Lindsey District Council has voted unanimously to progress plans to acquire the former RAF Scampton site in what leaders are calling a ‘once-in-a-generation’ regeneration opportunity.

The decision, made at full council on 2 March, sees the authority bid to purchase the 800-acre site from the Home Officeworking in partnership with selected development partner Scampton Holdings Limited.

The proposed £300m regeneration of the historic home of the legendary ‘Dambusters’ Squadron would focus on aviation, business, education and tourism, while preserving the site’s internationally significant heritage.

An independent report commissioned by the council and Scampton Holdings projects a £2.1bn economic boost, up to 3,625 new jobs, and over 300,000 annual visitors — with plans for a new air show celebrating Scampton’s storied aviation legacy.

Council leader Jackie Brockway said: ‘Our vision for RAF Scampton has not changed. We believe regeneration of the site will create jobs, attract investment and bring visitors to the area, delivering lasting economic and community benefits.

‘Working in partnership with Scampton Holdings Limited, we remain committed to securing a landmark scheme that protects the sites heritage while unlocking its potential.’
